As Director of Industrial Design at THRIVE, John helps bring game-changing innovations to market. His wide experience in design, research, materials and production processes enable him to design products that people really want—and that really work. John grounds THRIVE in good process and unflinching feasibility and helps translate key learnings and user experience needs into actionable strategy. He’s responsible for elevating user experience at THRIVE and our clients through product interaction, visual language and advanced human factors principles.
With 18 years of product development experience, John has a unique skillset that spans both consumer and professional products with a deep expertise in medical device development. Before joining THRIVE, John worked in a range of industries while at Insight Product Development in Chicago, including the medical, consumer electronics and housewares sectors for such notable brands as Abbott, Abbvie, Baxter and GlaxoSmithKline. He ensures that research findings are actionable through downstream design and manufacturing phases and creating applicable strategies for future scenarios and experience opportunities
John holds an M.A. in Industrial Design from the University of New South Wales (Sydney), where his coursework included user centered design methods, innovation/new product development and advanced human factors. John is also a current faculty member at Georgia Tech where he teaches in the Master of Industrial Design program.
Since his teenage years, John has been an avid ice hockey fan—playing goalie in leagues across Atlanta. He’s also a proud father and a movie buff.
